Wynnum Manly v Sunshine Coast
Men’s First Grade Round 1 - KFCT20 Max Game 3
20 August 2022 1.45pm at Bill Albury Oval
In the second game of the day at Bill Albury Oval, Corey Hunter was successful at the toss and chose to field first.
After a slow start thanks to a couple of tight overs from Sukhveer Singh and Sam Hatherell, Alecz Day cut loose taking 26 from 15 deliveries before being cleaned up by Zac Foulkes’ 2nd ball. Tyran Liddiard came to the crease with intent. The second wicket partnership with Nick Selman had added 48 when Selman skied one to mid-off and was well caught by Foulkes off Rob Fitzgerald. Three balls later, Foulkes struck again when Charlie Wakim swung across the line and missed. Grayson Jones took just one ball to sneak through the defences of Liddiard reducing the Scorchers to 4/98; 3/9 in 10 balls. Brendon Schultz picked up where Liddiard left off smashing 41 from 22 balls and propelling the Scorchers to a formidable 5/163 at the end of their 20.
Corey Hunter got off to a flier once again, clobbering five boundaries in a quick-fire 23, but the loss of both openers in successive overs inside the power play set the Wynnum cause back. Tied down by good bowling, Grayson Jones and Daniel Solway had to settle for singles and the occasional two, before Jones broke the shackles with a six in the 9th over. Solway ended a string of 14 consecutive singles with a boundary in the 11th over, but met his demise immediately after via a Selman catch. Jones and Foulkes continued at a run-a-ball until Jones fell to a sharp C&B by James Nanopoulos at the end of the 15th over. The task was now 70 from 30. Foulkes and Nick King took the Power Surge and 33 from seven balls including 27 by a rampant King who found the boundary with every ball of the 17th over. 33 from 18 and hearts were pumping. Foulkes charged down the wicket to Mitch Cook who anticipated, pushed it wide to Liddiard who did the rest. Three balls later, King found the hands of Wakim on the boundary and it was 6/133. A couple of wickets in the next over as well and Wynnum’s cause was lost, eventually going down by 15 runs.
