Wynnum Manly v Northern Suburbs

Men’s First Grade Round 1 - KFCT20 Max Game 2

20 August 2022 9.30am at Bill Albury Oval

A sensational day greeted the players for the opening Saturday of the season. After a first up defeat by Redlands on Friday night, Norths were keen to make amends against Wynnum at Bill Albury Oval. Norths won the toss and elected to bowl.

Wynnum started well with three boundaries and a six in the first 15 balls, but then Corey Hunter scooped one back to Scott Rodgie and from that point things became difficult. Boundaries dried up and wickets fell regularly to spinners Nathan McSweeney (3/8) and Nikhil Chaudhary (3/14). The score was 7/60 at the end of the 13th over when Rob Fitzgerald joined Nick King. The pair took 17 from the “power surge” and continued to build on that momentum in a partnership of 56 from 39 balls which dragged the score up to 119.

Nick King backed up a fine 40 with the bat with a good catch on the long on boundary to dismiss the dangerous Josh Brown. Four balls later, Sukhveer Singh nabbed his second wicket of a double wicket maiden; Joe Burns caught by Sahal Khatree on the mid wicket fence. Norths did not capitulate however. Addy Grewal and Nathan McSweeney plundered the bowling in a partnership of 107 from 59 balls, both completing 50s on the way. The target achieved from 12.3 overs.
