Western Suburbs v Wynnum Manly

Men’s First Grade Round 2 - KFCT20 Max Game 3

28 August 2022 1.30pm at Graceville Memorial Park

Wynnum faced off against Wests at Graceville Memorial Park in the second of the Sunday encounters. The luck of the Irish was with Wests skipper Paddy Dooley who won the toss and elected to bowl.

It was a disastrous start for Wynnum with three wickets back in the shed for just 14 runs before the end of the power play. Chris Sabburg claimed an outfield catch and a sharp C&B while Elijah Eales grabbed the other two wickets. James Seymour and Grayson Jones guided Wynnum to 50 before both fell in the space of 11 balls to reduce Wynnum to 5/56 in the 11th. Solway and Foulkes combined for a valuable 40 from 36 but struggled against the spin of Steve Paulsen who claimed three wickets including Foulkes when he attempted a reverse sweep and was caught by Isaiah Snell. Solway continued and remained not out shepherding Wynnum to 117 from their 20 overs.

After clubbing 16 from 10, Ben Abbott charged Sukhveer Singh’s first ball in the 4th over. Singh saw him coming and cleverly pushed it wide for Ali Nasar to complete a slick stumping. Sabburg and Sam Truloff then partnered for a run-a-ball 48 which took Wests into the 11th before Sabburg fell victim to Liam Guthrie via a Daniel Solway catch. A couple of overs later, Arjun Nair popped won up to Nick King off Zac Foulkes to make it 3/83 in the 13th. There was no further joy for Wynnum though as Truloff picked off the runs with 16 balls to spare, bringing up a 50 from 43 balls and receiving fine support by Paulsen.

Two more games to play on Monday and Tuesday evenings at Ian Healy Oval (Norths) and Allan Border Field. 6.30pm start.
