Western Power v Bayside Pirates

BPL 2022 - U23F

26 September 2022 (11.00am) at Bill Albury Oval

It was a glorious day at Bill Albury Oval for the start of the Brisbane Premier League’s U23 Female tournament. The Western Power’s first match was against the Bayside Pirates. Skipper, Emma Jackson won the toss and elected to bowl.

Sarah Walker drew first blood for the Power just 10 balls into the innings when Jenna Cowell edged to keeper Jamie-Lee Strang. Four balls later, Erin Moran trapped the new batter LBW and it didn’t stop there. Walker and Moran provided catches for Emma Jackson and Abby Harris in the 4th and 5th overs and Breann Craven disturbed the stumps in the 6th to reduce the Pirates to 5/17. Meghan McCartney and Ashleigh Sims added to the Pirates’ woes in the 9th and 10th overs, Breanna Craven’s direct hit from backward point made an already bad situation worse and when Sims enticed a lofted shot in the 14th, Moran was there to take the chance; the Pirates 9/26. Jessica Bryant smashed a couple of defiant boundaries in the 15th before Ashleigh Sims rattled her stumps to end the Pirates innings on 41 in the 16th over.

Emma Jackson and Hannah Freiberg made short work of the chase taking just 20 balls to overhaul the target without loss. an emphatic, first-up win for the Power.
