Western Power v Gold Coast Waveriders

BPL 2022 - U23F

26 September 2022 (2.00pm) at Wayne Broad Oval

Game 2 was a cracker of a match!. Emma Jackson called correctly again and elected to bowl…again.

Gold Coast skipper, Mikayla Wrigley asserted herself early with a six over mid-off from the 4th ball to open her account. That was the first of nine sixes in a dominant innings of 107 from 65 balls by Mikayla. In a 104 run partnership for the second wicket, Grace Collins added a creditable 35 from 27 balls but that seemed almost pedestrian alongside the brutal stroke-play of Wrigley. A couple of wickets did fall - Abby Toshack well caught in the deep by Abby Harris off Meghan McCartney and McCartney taking one herself on the opposite side of the ground to dismiss Collins off Olivia Clark.

The target for the Power was 175 and Emma Jackson was determined to run it down. Despite the big total, the Waveriders opening bowlers struggled to settle and Jackson took full toll; clubbing boundaries while partner Hannah Freiberg fed her the strike. Hannah fell with the score on 50 in the 6th over, the first victim of two catches by Grace Collins off the bowling of Neja Perera. The second was Jamie-Lee Strang in the 8th over followed closely by Meghan McCartney who was stumped by an alert Wrigley. Jackson reached 50 from 27 balls in the 9th over, but was out at the end of the 11th also stumped by Wrigley, this time off Sevi Kaur. The Power continued the charge toward the total and were in the hunt for most of the innings. Breanna Craven batted well in the middle order for 35, but scoreboard pressure eventually told with three run outs in the innings - two by Grace Collins, capping off a stellar day in the field. The Power’s challenge finished just 15 runs short. from the second last ball of the day.

Well done to both teams for a very entertaining afternoon’s cricket.
