Wanderers v Toowoomba Grammar School
26 November 2019
Toowoomba Grammar School, Mills Oval
Once again, a spectacular venue for Wanderers taking on TGS at Mills Oval. Jacarandas blooming at one end, electronic scoreboard, nets including turf practice wickets at the other. Indeed a privilege to play on such top class facilities.
The TGS bowling was spot on restricting Wanderers to about 75 runs a session. Lee Watts and Sheldon Stackpole were the only batsmen to make a mark; Watts bringing up his first ton for Wanderers with some beautiful shots especially down the ground. In the end, Wanderers were out in the 50th over for 231.
In the chase, TGS came out with intent, running very well between the wickets and forcing errors in the field as a result. A 2nd wicket partnership of 91 from just 83 balls, between Jem Ryan and Tom Sippel laid the perfect foundation for the batsmen to come; Jem going on to post an impressive 63 to go with 4/30 in the Wanderers innings.
Archie Steele batting at 6 combined with skipper Dan Brown for a 5th wicket 46 and with Sam Anderson for a 7th wicket 49 from 39 balls to propel TGS to a win in just 40.3 overs. Kyle Coleman picked up 3 wickets (including two in an over) in a 7 over spell.
The TGS hospitality was superb.
