Wanderers v Brisbane Grammar School

27 November 2019

Brisbane Grammar Playing Fields Northgate

A case of ‘From the sublime to the sublime’ for Wanderers. BGS at Northgate another superb venue following on from TGS the day before. An overcast day this time and I wish I could say “a nice” breeze, but it was a howling wind; hand on the iPad all day to stop it from blowing over! 😬 First world problems I suppose.

This was a day for partnerships. 58, 48, 29 and 35 for the first 4 wickets for Wanderers, 66, 78, 42 for the first 3 wickets for BGS.

Aryan Jain milked singles at will in a well-composed 65 before retiring at the end of the 32nd over. James Bazley and Josh Durkin contributed a pair of run-a-ball 28s and down the order, Nick Pepper completed a 59 ball 50 in his last game for Wanderers before heading home to the UK.

Wanderers’ total of 8/269 was always going to be a difficult total for BGS who were fielding predominantly Year 9 and 10 boys. However, the confidence of the young men was never in question, especially opener and skipper, Matthew Lockhart, who compiled 122 from 140 balls.

Pepper, Singh, Durkin and Robinson picked up 2 each. Paddy Cotter stood up to the stumps throughout the innings picking up 5 superb dismissals, 2 catches and 3 stumpings.

A credit to Wanderers who flew through their overs to complete 50 in 2hrs 54 min; 40 minutes less than the BGS innings.

The lunchtime Lasagne was superb. Thank you to BGS for the amazing hospitality and letting me operate their scoreboard.😁🏏🏏🏏🏏
