Wanderers v Matthew Flinders Anglican College

19/11/2020

Forester Fields, Buderim

A beautifully prepared wicket and surrounds on a perfect day for cricket.

Wanderers batted first. A partnership of 79 from 52 balls for the 4th wicket between Angus Lovell and Harry Carroll took Wanderers to 4/140 at the 20-over drinks break. After drinks, Carroll partnered with Josh Durkin for 72 from 47 balls for the 5th wicket, before they both fell in successive overs, bringing Chris Peirson and Joey Pratt together. The 7th wicket partnership was a blistering 100 from just 56 balls. Peirson continued to blast away after the fall of Pratt to steer Wanderers to an imposing 8/345 from the allocated 40 overs.

MFAC got off to a flying start in the chase, taking 20 off the first two overs. Nick Selman claimed the first wicket in over 4 when Tom Hemming (16) popped one up to Pratt at mid-on; 1/26.

The second wicket contributed 29 before Itin Bhardwaj, found the edge of Kurtis Saker’s (15) bat to make it 2/55. another pop-up to Lovell off Pratt made it 3/65, then a brilliant bit of fielding at cover by Josh Durkin saw Hunter Peters (18) run out with the score on 72.

From there it was the Josh Gittens show; his leg-spinners claiming 2/19 in his first spell, then 4/14 in his next to finish with 6/33 from 7 overs. Selman and Peirson picked up catches as did Gittens himself off his own bowling.

A fighting 7th wicket partnership of 53 from 78 balls between skipper Rhyan Sanderson (30) and Harry Kavanagh (19) was a highlight for MFAC as was a cameo by coach Rodney Davison (22) partnering a belligerent Tom Roper (27) for an unbeaten 41 from 37 balls for the 11th wicket; taking the final score to 203.

Thank you to Rodney Davison and the Matthew Flinders’ staff and parents for their hospitality.

Next week - Tuesday 24th November - it’s the clash with TGS in Toowoomba. TGS were victorious in the last encounter.
