Warehouse v Sub Districts

Plunkett Cup 2020/21

22 November 2020 at Underwood Park

An enthralling encounter today at Underwood Park. The toss was won by Subbies skipper David Gunn and on a belter of a track and what promised to be a hot day, there was no hesitation in batting first.

Despite several early opportunities, Warehouse had to wait until the 13th over for the first wicket when skipper, Nathan Brown broke through via a Shane Rabbitt catch. Then in the space of twelve balls, Murdoch Hogan plucked one out of the air at mid-wicket, off Brown, Matthew Taviani trapped one of the the new batsmen in front, and Brown grabbed his third with his own LBW turning 0/53 into 4/62 at drinks.

The next session was dominated by a partnership of 63 in about 15 overs between skipper, Gunn and Mitch Siebenhausen. It was Fabian Roberts who inspired his Warehouse teammates with a C&B and an LBW in consecutive overs leading into the second drinks break to make it 6/128.

After drinks, Siebenhausen anchored partnerships of 18 for the 7th and 39 for the 8th wicket; Roberts taking his 3rd and Hogan his first. Finally, the key wicket of Siebenhausen fell when Jacob Porter nabbed one behind off Abhi Patel with the score on 185. The final wicket fell in the 49th over on 198, when Shane McIvor pouched one on the boundary to give Hogan his second wicket.

199 seemed like a “gettable” total until a flurry of early wickets saw Warehouse reduced to 5/53 in less than 15 overs and limping into drinks at 5/63.

The next 25 overs produced an amazing partnership between Khaleel Waqar and Murdoch Hogan. The pair took the score to 129 at second drinks, then, after drinks accelerated to polish off the final 70 runs in just 8.5 overs. The partnership realizing 149 from 165 balls. A fine 50no to Waqar and an impressive 94no to Hogan. A match-winning performance!

Well done Warehouse lads. A very good win.
