2019 Nudeballers Goldfield Ashes

Game 1 (Match 31) v Mossman Mangoes

The one with the broken face

26 January 2018 at Mossman Park Junior Cricket Field 15

Batting first, Nudeballers 9/266; 28.4 overs; Mossman Mangoes All Out 122; 19.3 overs

Nudeballers win by 144 runs

42 came from the first six overs for the Nudeballers, but so did four wickets, Rescue missions were needed. These came from partnerships of 74 (58) between The Soiler and Bonfire and 71 (32) between Flash and Bonfire (Flash smashing a 50 from 19 balls). Unfortunately, the Mangoes wicketkeeper copped a ball right in the face from a Bonfire hook shot and was later transported to Townsville Hospital.

A double strike in the first over by Trust Me rocked the Mangoes and a wicket-maiden next over by Uncle Bob made it 3/12. 3 Questions made it 4/37 in the 6th, before a 49 run partnership righted the ship. Then #pooinsink struck at the end of the 11th and Truck struck twice in the 12th and the Mangoes were in trouble again at 7/92. The Soiler claimed one a few overs later and Bonfire mopped up the last two in the 20th for a convincing first-up win for the Nudeballers.

Play of the Day: Bonfire (hooked the ball into the keepers face. Had to be taken to Townsville for a CT)

Cliche’s Captain Awards:

  • 2 Pot finding lost ball;

  • Uncle Bob looking for the ball;

  • Truck enthusiasm after taking a heap of crap from the opposition

Game 2 (Match 32) v Neville’s Nomads

The one with the useless statistic

27 January 2019 at Richmond Hill State School Field 20

Batting first, Neville’s Nomads 9/120; 33.3 overs. Nudeballers 9/239; 35 overs

Nudeballers win by 6 wickets in 19 overs

This was the Nudies second match on the beautifully grassed Richmond Hill State School. Oh that we could play all matches there 😌.

Bonfire claimed a wicket in the first over thanks to a #pooinsink catch, but, the Nudeballers had to wait ten overs before Flash held onto one off Stinky for the second. Nomads were struggling against the tight bowling with just 70 on the board at the halfway mark which is exactly when Uncle Bob took one off Trust Me to make it 3 fa. Wickets then started to tumble. 2 Pot grabbed one in the next over to make it 4/72, then Bonfire and Uncle Bob picked up wickets in successive overs to make it 6/88. Wickets to Shut-the-f@#$-up, Flash and Stinky cleaned up the tail and restricted Neville’s to just 120.

A collapse at the top of the order had Nudeballers 4/33 before a 67 run partnership between #pooinsink (55) and Trust Me brought the Nudeballers within 21 of the target. Trust Me and Stinky took the Nudies past the target in the 19th over. Some lusty hitting followed with a maiden 50 to Truck, in a 55-run partnership with 2 Pot, guiding the Nudeballers to 239.

  • Play of the Day: Trust Me (stemming the flow after an upper order collapse)

  • Captains Award: Truck (enthusiasm bowling, batting and fielding)

The useless statistic? This was the first time in 32 matches that the Nudies did not concede a double-digit over in their bowling innings. 🤔

Game 3 (Match 33) v Wallabies

The one with the washout.

  • For the first time in 11 years, Nudeballers had a washout. Play not possible on Monday due to the condition of the ground.
