Lanning XII v Perry XII

CA Lanning v Perry Series U19 Female

Game 3 - 4 September 2022 at Geoff Dymock Oval

A miserable Saturday turned into a fine Father’s Day Sunday at Geoff Dymock Oval for Game 3 of the Lanning v Perry Series. Lanning XII had scored a victory on Saturday afternoon, batting second but now needed to post a target in the return clash.

Sundries were top score after the first couple of overs, but the bowlers settled and Emmerson Filsell claimed the first wicket in the 4th over via a catch by Ella Heyward. Ella Wilson came out with intent and together with skipper Amy Smith, added 32 over the next four overs. An outfield catch by Chloe Ainsworth off spinner Jade Allen put an end to the Wilson shenanigans; 2/46 in the 8th. A good bit of fielding and a straight throw by Claire Moore caught Amy Smith short of her ground an over later and it was 3/58. In the face of some tight bowling by Allen and Callee Black, Poppy Stockwell and Sianna Ginger had to settle for pushing the ball around over the next few overs. Heyward’s second catch of the innings off Black saw the end of Ginger and flicked a switch for Stockwell who smacked 22 from her next 12 balls. A faint edge off Zoe Samuel into the gloves of Paris Hall sent Stockwell back to the marquee at the end of the 16th. Lucy Hamilton and Charis Bekker added a valuable 22 from the last 25 balls to set a target of 125 for the Perry XII

Paris Hall and Claire Moore set about the task with vigour taking 31 from the powerplay and 20 off the next 14 balls to register the first 50 partnership of the weekend. Hall had taken her innings to weekend high score of 35 from 35 before a brilliant catch off her own bowling by Charis Bekker put an end to the innings. From that point, partnerships got started, but were snuffed out before any real damage could be done. Ananaya Sharma finished with an enviable 2/8 from her 3 overs, 3/12 for the weekend and claimed the important wicket of Claire Moore, well caught by Bonnie Berry at Long On. Moore’s 24 from 37 balls in 60 minutes was almost an exact match of her previous day’s 24 from 37 in 58 minutes! Sharma and the Wilsons, Callie and Ella, restricted the Perry XII to just 22 from the last six overs and delivered another victory to the Lanning XII by 22 runs.
