Rain threatened but thankfully stayed away for the opening fixture of BPL02. Western Power skipper, Harry Wood, called successfully and elected to bowl. The Power struck 11 balls in when Bryn Llewellyn snuck one through Paddy Cotter’s defence. On 14 from 12, Addy Grewal shifted gear clubbing 45 from his next 14 balls to advance the Waveriders to 74 from 35 deliveries. Grewal was finally dismissed on the 37th ball of the innings when he skied one off Dylan McAteer and was well caught by Steve Paulsen. There was no respite for the Power though as Nikhil Chaudhary joined Harry McNeilly at the crease in a blistering 119 run partnership from just 59 balls. Chaudhary smashed 81 from 29 in the partnership including five 4s and eight 6s, before being caught on the boundary by Paulsen off Sean Lutter eight balls from the end. McNeilly continued to record a fine 64 from 36 balls to guide the Waveriders to an imposing 221 from their allocated 100 balls.
Opening the innings, Steve Paulsen blasted the Waverider bowling for 37 from 9 balls before disaster struck. Three wickets fell in the space of nine balls in a Param Uppal ten-baller; Western Power 3/56 at the end of the Powerplay. The next 20 balls were sedate in comparison. 20 runs were added but two wickets in a Slater Asnicar over - the second to a brilliant catch by Paddy Cotter - reduced Western Power to 5/76 from 40 balls. Jared Sippel and Bryn Llewewllyn partnered for 44 from 26 for the 6th wicket before a smart bit of keeping by Toby Snell had Sippel stumped off a Chaudhary wide with the score on 120. Western Power could only manage a further 33 from the remaining 34 balls falling 68 runs short.
