The Waveriders had successfully chased 164 in their semi against the Pirates and the Marlins had run down the Rockets’ 172. 9 out of 14 tournament matches had ended in favour of the team batting second. There were no surprises for guessing how the toss would go. Marlins called correctly and elected to bowl.

Although the Marlins picked up Cotter cheaply from the 12th ball, courtesy of a Davies catch off Mason Kohler, Addy Grewal had already taken 21 from seven balls. Add to this, Harry McNeilly’s plunder of 19 from his first 8 balls and Waveriders were 41 at the end of the Powerplay. Three dot balls from Mitch Cook provided enough frustration for Grewal to smack the 4th into the hands of Lloyd Aspin at backward point and the momentum shifted. Just 13 came from the next 20 balls courtesy of some tight bowling by Cook and Adam Somerfield. Balls 40 to 60 were only slightly more productive for the Waveriders delivering a couple of boundaries but coming at the expense of Harry McNeilly who made 40 before he hammered one from Lloyd Aspin straight to Donal Whyte at point. This brought Nikhil Chaudhary to the crease and boundaries quickly followed. A partnership of 48 from 23 with Param Uppal included five 6s and a 4 before Uppal fell victim to a Kohler catch off Nathan Van Eekeren. Chaudhary fell five balls later for 35 when Davies held one at long on off Mitch Cook. Dylan McLachlan took the helm steering the Waveriders to a score of 6/161 in a partnership of 12 from 14 with Chris Knight and a valuable 17 run final over with Jackson Smith.

Jackson Smith once again claimed the first scalp for the Waveriders; that of Nick Selman, caught by McNeilly, with the score on 15 from 15. Kris Glass and Jay Lenton then smashed six 6s and a 4 in a 50 run partnership spanning the next 25 balls. A very good catch by Oliver West from the bowling of Chaudhary removed Glass on ball 40, then wickets to Uppal, Knight and Asnicar in successive overs saw the Marlins slump to 5/82 from 60 balls. A brilliant catch by Paddy Cotter removed Judd Markham 13 balls later. A slick stumping by Toby Snell gave Chaudhary his second wicket and a second catch by Grewal delivered a third wicket to Uppal (3/17 with 8 dots). Kush Ram and Mason Kohler added 19 at the end, but it was not enough to stop the Waveriders claiming their second title in two years.

Congratulations to the Waveriders!
