South Brisbane v Wynnum Manly
Men’s First Grade Trial Match - One Day
13 August 2022 at Norman Gray Oval
Under menacing skies and a poor forecast, play got underway on time at Norman Gray Oval with Wynnum Manly batting first. Harmon Sandhu started off sensationally for Souths claiming the wicket of Jed Wilson from his second ball, caught behind by Clay Beams. Grayson Jones joined his skipper Corey Hunter. Tight bowling from South restricted Wynnum to 26 from the first 10 overs, but from that point Hunter and Jones accelerated to be 58 at drinks just six overs later. The 100 partnership from 129 balls and Jones’ 50 from 68 balls came up in the 23rd over. Hunter’s 50 came up a few overs later and his dismissal a couple of balls caught by Duval to give Sandhu his second wicket. Sukhveer Singh joined Jones and steered Wynnum to Drinks at 2/156; 98 coming in the 16 overs since the last break. Jones’ wicket fell just five balls after drinks, bowled attempting a reverse sweep off Aryan Jain. Rain intervened in the 40th over just as Reuben Burger was run out by Connor McMillan after a mix-up. Teams agreed to take lunch and reduce the match to 40 overs per side. Wynnum finishing on 4/193.
Wynnum claimed Logan Duval in the first over of the chase caught by Wilson off Rob Fitzgerald. Dylan Hunter dominated the 52 run, 2nd wicket partnership with Aryan Jain, smashing 39 from 21 balls. Rain again intervened. Captains agreed to abandon play for the day. Souths finishing on 1/56 from 8 overs.
