Upskill Cricket v Carina A

Winter Warehouse 2023 Saturday A1 Round 7

17 and 24 June 2023 at Marchant Park 5

Day One:

The Upskill toss curse continued with Carina electing to field first in the Round 7 encounter at MP5. Carina Bowlers Mitchell Taylor and Bryce Balcombe made it tough in the first 16 overs, delivering 82 dot balls and restricting Upskill to just 17 runs for the loss of three wickets. A change in bowling brought another wicket and Upskill were in trouble at 4/17. Dan Gray and Will Whatmore dug in for a 5th wicket 39 from 70 balls; but when Gray departed, the situation was still dire at 5/56. Partnerships of 89 between Whatmore (87) and Lance Roudenko, then 92 between Roudenko and Justin Basi (35) took the score to 7/239. Roudenko went on to a fabulous 100 from 143 balls; bringing up the milestone with a six, before holing out next ball - the last of the day - with the score on 279.

Day Two:

Declaring overnight on 8/279, Upskill encountered stubborn resistance from the Carina opening pair. Campbell Farrelly claimed the first wicket of the day in the 15th over when Luke Ronday held one at slip. Then, two wickets in three balls via catches to Dan Gray, off Farrelly and Om Bhikadiya, made it 3/53 from 22 overs. It was almost 10 overs before the next wicket fell; Milan Skaria spinning one past the bat to make it 4/82. Skipper Andy Ragg joined evergreen Michael Turner to guide Carina to tea at 4/114 from 35 overs. Om Bhikadiya removed Ragg 11 balls after the break to end the run-a-ball, 38 run partnership with Turner. Bhikadiya then struck again in his next over to make it 6/120. A catch to Amitoj Sidhu four overs later, handed Bhikadiya his 4th for the day and the 5-fa came 8 overs later in the 51st over. Turner’s 50 (from 96 balls) came up three overs later and the final two wickets a few overs after that - Navdeep Singh scoring a direct hit then following it up with a wicket in the next over. Carina all out for 181.

A First Innings win to Upskill!
