MCC Invitational XI v RCA Invitational XI

“Let there be light”

11 June 2023 at D M Henderson Lower

In celebration of new light towers at D M Henderson, A Paul Jonas led Macgregor XI took on a Roudenko Cricket Academy XI in a T10 romp on Sunday evening. Macgregor veterans Mian (Sunny) Waqar and Troy Burns presided over the match.

The toss was bloodless with Lance Roudenko winning and electing to bat. Openers, Luke Ronday and Grayson Jones pummelled the opening bowlers for 49 from 30 balls before Ronday was compulsorily retired on 28 (14). Jones followed 4 balls later after his 25. From that point the Macgregor bowlers fought back with the veterans Damian Lewis and Tahir Sheikh picking up three wickets in 8 balls; the latter with the enviable return of 2/1. 24 from the last two overs including 7 off the last 2 balls from the wily Roudenko, took the score to a competitive 98 from the allotted 10.

A 22 run second over from the Macgregor openers, Khaleel Waqar and Tahir Sheikh provided an excellent platform for the chase. The partnership was 40 from 22 when Khaleel holed out at the end of the third. Nav Kahlon joined Tahir to add 21 from 14 before Tahir was caught in the deep; the first of three catches in 12 balls to Grayson Jones. Liam Brady bowled an impressive wicket maiden in the 8th to leave Macgrgeor 21 from 12 balls. Some lusty hitting by Matt Taviani (24 from 8) and clever strike rotation by Damian Lewis brought the game to a conclusion in Macgregor’s favour with 5 balls to spare.

A heap of fun was had by all and the lights received a tick of approval from the players. With 2/1 and 18 from 13, Tahir Sheikh must’ve been close to Player of the Match honours. The Father/Daughter clash between Nav and Amreen Kahlon was heartily cheered. Congratulations to the organisers and participants and a big Thank You to Doug O’Neill and Liam Brady for some fabulous photography and Videography.
