Warehouse v Logan Districts

Plunkett Cup 2021/22

30 January 2022 at Oliver Sporting Complex

With the Oliver Sporting Complex oval in great shape and conditions overcast, Jacob Porter won the toss for Warehouse and elected to bowl. Abhi Patel broke through early when an edge from Gary Cobbin was snapped up by an alert Ben Howard at slip in the 3rd over. Josh Mullen added 10 before he also found the edge and the gloves of Porter to give Patel his second wicket in the 7th over. Josh Tazzyman replaced Patel from the Clubhouse end in the 9th over and produced a seed 2nd ball which crashed into Matthew Bailey’s off stump to make it 3/30. Lance Newman and Eddie Comer steadied the ship before Newman was out on the stroke of drinks, beaten by a Hayden Marks throw; 4/48.

Santosh Nistala and Fabian Roberts were now bowling in tandem and runs were hard to come by. Santosh was rewarded with a wicket when the last ball of the third over after drinks snuck through the batsman and crashed into the stumps. Logan Districts skipper, Jackson Larkins joined Eddie Comer and the pair had just started to settle when the pressure of 12 runs from six overs told. A mix-up found both batsmen mid-wicket when the throw from Tazzyman came in to Porter. Comer’s innings coming to an end for a well-made 30. It was Fabian’s turn a couple of overs later when the batsman was trapped in front to make it 7/73. The combined spell for Santosh and Fabian: 20-6-2-34! The remainder of the innings was the Tom Somerville show as he mopped up the tail in a 3.2 over spell of 3/4, via a catch to Khinjan Shah, a C&B and a brilliant “mark” in the outfield by Josh Tazzyman. Logan Districts collapsing to be all out for 76 in 33.2 overs.

Jackson Larkins claimed a couple of wickets early for Logan Districts via and LBW and a catch to Kieran Anderton, but a third wicket partnership of 48 between Porter and Shah saw Warehouse most of the way to the target. A belligerent 50 from 40 balls (including 8 fours) by Shah was the highlight of the Warehouse innings. Shah retired with an injury shortly after reaching 50. Eddie Comer snapped up another wicket via a Josh Mullens catch for Logan Districts before Porter hit the winning runs in the 15th over. Warehouse completing a 7wicket victory.
