Wanderers v Proserpine (Kelsey Creek Dump Chooks)
Wanderers Tour 2020
Proserpine Cricket Association 15/8/2020
Tour game three
What a beautiful day for cricket. Warm early, then a lovely afternoon breeze to bring it home.
Once again it was the MJ Toolis/Christian Murphy show. Another blistering century partnership (138 from 91 balls), this time for the second wicket, set the scene for a 300+ score. Christian went on to record a wonderful century from 76 balls before retiring unbeaten with the score on 253 at the end of the 30th over. Proserpine fought back to take 6/34 in the final 10 overs; Bryce Fraser and Jonno Cutting nabbing three each to keep the target to 288; a far cry from the possible 350+ that loomed earlier.
The chase started solidly with a 38-run opening stand before Tyran Eggmolesse and Luke Feldman knocked over five of the top six batsmen in the space of four overs to reduce Prossy to 5/48. Tim Agapow grabbed a catch at mid-wicket and Luke himself took a “screamer” (his words) at slip.
Meanwhile, No. 3, Scott Hardy, persevered and anchored partnerships of 34, 22 and 63 for the 6th, 7th and 8th wickets. A catch on the boundary by Robert O’Keeffe off James Wooden ended the 6th wicket while Tim Agapow claimed the 7th and 8th wicket with assistance from a Feldman outfield catch and a Leigh Drennan stumping.
With a personal milestone looming, Hardy needed his last two batsmen to hang around. However, the cricket gods are cruel. An inspired Thomas Morris dried up the runs at one end and Tim Agapow nabbed his third thanks to a catch behind square by Matt Williamson. Then, with Hardy on 99, Morris took a catch off O’Keefe to dismiss his partner.
Coincidentally, Proserpine had fallen short of the target by 99!
Wanderers invited Proserpine to bat again.
With a target of 100 from 9 overs, Prossy finished at 3/38. Two Wickets to Morris and one to James Wooden.
Thank you to the “dump chooks” faithful for some wonderful hospitality.
