Wanderers v Home Hill

Wanderers Tour 2020

Home Hill Racecourse 16/08/2020

Tour game four

A glorious day in the North. Clear skies, warm weather and a light breeze. Perfect for cricket.

Leigh Drennan and Byron Gale continued the trend of strong top order starts with 74 from the first 13 overs. The loss of both openers within a few overs, slowed the run rate considerably. A possible 240 became a likely 180 until an energetic Lance Roudenko breathed life back into the innings.

On his way to 50, Roudenko combined in a 46 run partnership with Tim Agapow and then 35 runs in 26 balls with MJ Toolis, but, the coup dè grace came in 40 run undefeated partnership with Tyran Eggmolesse which came from just 16 balls and featured some spectacular hitting by both Egg and Lance.

The target was set at 215 and while Luke Feldman made things difficult early, a 58 run, 5th wicket partnership between Mark Coventry and Brendan Williams, from 34 balls, threatened. It took a couple of Feldman “specials” to remove both wickets and halt the flow of runs. In the end, Feldman’s 4/10 from 6 overs proved the difference between the sides as Home Hill succumbed for 144; 70 runs in arrears.

On a day when the catching was not so great, Christian Murphy held onto a couple of tricky skied chances and Leigh Drennan held a good one on the boundary.

The Home Hill hospitality was awesome and the camaraderie first class. Thanks to all.
