Wanderers v England ID
Oxenham Park, La Frantz Oval
4 October 2019
Game 1
England batted first in the first of two 20/20s. Partnerships of 31, 38 and 41 for the 3rd, 4th and 5th wicket respectively set England up for a formidable total. A couple of wickets from consecutive deliveries in the 17th over from Byron Gale put the brake on England, restricting them to a total of 141, anchored beautifully by a stylish 71 from skipper Chris Edwards.
Wanderers openers, Dylan McLachlan and Nick Strong, showed some style of their own as well as some brutal hitting to all but eradicate the total before Dylan fell just 5 runs short of victory in the 12th over. The 136run partnership coming in just 72 balls. The win was sealed just 2 balls later...4 October 2019;
Game 2
Wanderers turn to bat first in the second 20/20 played at Lafrantz Oval Toombul.
Successive 50 Partnerships between Sean Bryson, and Nick Pepper, then Pepper and Carrol set up the innings for Wanderers, but, following the dismissal of Pepper, England fought back well to hold Wanderers to just 29 runs from overs 13 to 18. Some late order hitting from James Girolami and Lewis Robinson catapulted Wanderers to 154.
England started well with a 39 run opening partnership, then lost 6/64 and seemed to have done their dash. A spirited, undefeated, 49 run 7th wicket partnership almost got England home. In the end, the margin was just 2 runs in favour of Wanderers.
Both matches were played in great spirit. Thank you to all, especially the Toombul club for hosting.
