Valley v Wynnum Gold

Veterans Over 40s Round 2

2 July 2023 at Geoff Dymock Oval

Wynnum Manly Gold found themselves batting first in the Round 2 clash against Valley at Geoff Dymock Oval. Skipper Justin Poole picked up where he left off the previous week blasting another unbeaten 50 in 29 balls. A couple of quick wickets just before drinks set the Wynnum cause back briefly before Steen Carlson combined first with Ryan Poole for 33, then Harry Stavarakis for 65 and reached 50 in a flurry of boundaries in the 32nd over. The calamitous 35th over produced four wickets including 2 run outs and a team hat-trick from the last three balls, but Wynnum managed to post a formidable 213.

Valley’s Gavan Brown blasted five boundaries in a 17 ball 24 at the top of the order, but three wickets in four overs reduced Valley to 3/39 in the 8th over. Matt Warner and Ben Whitaker battled some tight bowling for 14 overs to add 55 for the 4th wicket and Warner reached 50 from 64 balls at the end of the 26th. Scoreboard pressure eventually told as Andrew Monley and Luis Hermida returned to the attack to claim five of the last six wickets in the space of 21 balls; all bowled. The final wicket came in the 33rd over when the returning Warner was bowled by John Alderson with Valley 61 runs short. Luis Hermida finished with enviable figures of 4/22 from 7 overs and Andrew Monley 2/26 from 6

Well done all.
