South Brisbane v Valley - 2nd Grade

Allan Pettigrew Shield 2020/21

Round 13 20/20

6 December 2020 at Peter Easton Oval

Just when it couldn’t get any hotter, it did at the Ashgrove Sports Ground on Sunday. After the success batting first at Wests, Trent Pearce didn’t mind when he lost the toss and Souths were asked to bat. Four 4s and three 6s at the top of the order by Brandon Honeybrook propelled Souths to 48 before he was dismissed at the end of the power play. A solid 4th wicket partnership of 41 between Sidney Barnes and Brendan James was followed by an equally strong 36 run contribution by Barnes and Max Edmondson for the 5th. Matthew Taviani and Matt Casey ran well for 13 from the last 12 balls to take Souths to a reasonable 142 from the allotted 20.

Although Valley compiled strong early partnerships in the chase, Souths fought well with wickets to McNae, Joe Rangiah and Casey at critical times. On debut in second grade, Connor McMillan bowled and fielded with confidence picking up a good catch at mid-wicket.

A tense match went down to the wire with Valley still requiring 5 to win in the last over. Unfortunately, it was not to be for Souths.

Back to the two-dayers next week.
