Macgregor Mystics v Glasshouse Rangers

Warehouse Winter 2021

Round 3 Sunday A1

30 May 2021 at Marchant Park 5

Win the toss and bat first is the winning formula for Sunday games and Glasshouse Rangers set out to test the theory when they called correctly and decided to bat on Sunday.

Despite wickets in the 4th over to Gurpreet Singh and to new speed man, Hussain Akbar in the 9th, Glasshouse rattled along at over 4 an over for the first 11 overs. The brakes were then applied by Taimoor Shaukat and Allauddin Mohammed in a combined spell of 1/17 over the next 6 overs to drinks; Taimoor grabbing a wicket with assistance from an Aman Dhaliwal catch behind the stumps.

Al grabbed a wicket right after drinks to make it 4/63, before Glasshouse consolidated with a 30 run partnership for the 5th wicket. A catch by Taimoor off Irfan Ahmad Cheema saw the end of that partnership and when Hussain returned to claim the stubborn opener, with the score on 116, it appeared that Mystics had the upper hand. However, a 41 ball, 33 run partnership for the 7th wicket brought Glasshouse back into the game.

At 6/149 with 7 overs to go, a 200+ score looked on the cards. Up stepped skipper Al; taking 3/10 from 3.4 overs at the death, to restrict Glasshouse to 167. Saddam Sadiq assisted with a catch and Shenaz Bhangu was also on hand to take a catch to give Gurpreet his second wicket.

In the chase, apart from a promising partnership between Shenaz and Shayan Nekakhtar, no-one in the Mystics squad really got started. 8 out of 10 wickets fell to catches as Mystics were bundled out for 94 from just 36.3 overs.

Bad luck lads.
