Macgregor Mystics v Stallions

Warehouse 2021/22

Round 3 T20 Group A

14 November 2021 at Kianawah Park 11

A beautiful day for cricket at Kianawah Park. It would have been better if Allauddin had won the toss, but such is cricket. There was little to complain about for the Mystics when Al struck twice in his first over. The Stallions have been a bogey side for the Mystics and they fought back well taking 40 from the next five overs. Sukhveer Singh made the break-through in the 6th over and an over later, Javed Abro took a catch off Zahid Shoukat to make it 4/50.

The Stallions fought back again with a 36 run partnership in just under 5 overs for the 5th wicket. This time it was Javed who broke through the defences to make it 5/86 with just over 8 overs to go. Two wickets in the 16th over by Simerjot Dhaliwal reduced Stallions to 7/103, but in a repeating pattern for the innings, Stallions hit back again, taking 39 off the remaining 27 balls, to post a competitive 142; Stallions opener Sai Vishnu run out from the last ball of the innings for 49.

The chase started well with Khaleel Waqar and Deepak Salgotra partnering for 38 from 40 balls for the first wicket. Gojanur Channa joined Khaleel to take the score to 98 in the 15th over before Khaleel was unluckily run-out at the non-striker’s end when a drive from Channa ricocheted off the bowler onto the stumps, catching Khaleel short of his ground. Channa was out a couple of overs later four short of a half-century.

With 24 needed from the last three overs, the game seemed to be in hand for the Mystics. Ten runs from the 18th took the score to 129; 14 needed from the last two. Stallions fought back. A wicket and 5 off the 19th; 9 needed from the last. Panic set in. Mystics found themselves three runs short.

Perhaps one that got away!
