Macgregor Mystics v Brisbane Legends Koalas
Warehouse Cricket 2021/22
Round 5 - T20 Group A
12 December 2021 at Marchant Park 5
With Kianawah Park saturated from mid-week rain, matches were transferred to turf wickets at Marchant Park. Skipper, Allauddin Mohammed, lost the toss and Brisbane Legends invited Mystics to bat first. Opening the innings, Saddam Sadiq, summed up the conditions beautifully, playing straight on a very slow wicket and milking singles and twos. At the other end, wickets fell regularly, with no partnership lasting more than 17 balls. The first boundary of the innings came in the 14th over, off the bat of newcomer, Sayed Sanaullah. Unfortunately, Sayed was out next ball and Mystics were 8/62. Allauddin joined Saddam for a valuable 9th wicket partnership of 34 from 36 balls; Allauddin run out from the second last ball of innings. Mystics posted 97 with Saddam “carrying his bat” for 49* from 45 balls.
In the chase, Ankush and Karan started well for Legends, adding 20 before Sayed smashed through Karan’s defences in the 4th over. An over later, Taimoor did the same to Ankush and when Sayed rattled the stumps in the next over, it was 3/29. A little bit of wayward bowling allowed Punit and Vijay to add 38 from the next 27 balls, before a half-tracker from Gurmukh Singh, was hit straight to Sayed at square leg to break the partnership. The incoming batsman swung at his first ball, only to be well caught by Harpal Singh at mid-on; 5/67 and a another glimmer of hope for Mystics. However, Legends recovered with Ashwani and Vijay combining to guide them home, by 5 wickets in the 17th over.
