Macgregor Maniacs v Silent Assassins

Warehouse Cricket 2021/22 - Round 5 T20 Group B

12 December 2021 at Marchant Park 5

Midweek rain meant Kianawah Park was inundated, so T20s found their way to Marchant Park. Skipper, Khaleel Waqar, lost the toss and Maniacs found themselves batting first. Disaster visited early when Assassin, Anwer Olia, dismissed both openers in the first three overs. Khaleel was then joined by a determined Omair Khan in a rare T20 occurrence; a 100 partnership 😯. With a slow outfield making boundaries hard to come by, the partnership featured some great running between wickets including five 3s (!). Khaleel was finally out, LBW to Sunny Karkra, for a well-made 44, from the last ball of the 14th over. From there, Maniacs lost momentum. Just three runs came from the next ten balls before Karkra scattered Omair’s stumps for his second wicket. Sunny Bhullar (Sunnys everywhere 😄) bowled with good pace to claim two wickets in the 19th to make it 6/131, then Brett Nolan and Waseem Khatree added 8 off the last, to set a target of 140.

The opening overs of the chase was “The Jake Keeble Show”. Jake held a beauty at Long on off Khaleel from the 3rd ball of the innings, threw for a run out in the 4th, then scattered the stumps three balls later to leave the Assassins reeling at 3/18 in the 5th over. Mian Waqar had an inauspicious start, getting smacked for six in hits first over, then copping one in the Noggin when a catch broke through his hands at fine leg. But.. Sunny is a Macgregor Legend and fought back in style, giving up just seven runs from his next three overs. The 4th wicket came in the 7th over when Brett Nolan snuck one through to make it 4/26. Assassin’s skipper, Anjum, then joined Bikram in a 38 run, 5th wicket partnership. When Ben Menz, crashed one through Bikram’s defences in the 13th, Assassins were in trouble; needing 76 from the last 7 overs. They could only manage 27 as wickets fell to Khaleel, Ben and Mohammed Saleem in the final few overs; Assassins 8/90 from their 20 and a 49 run victory to Maniacs.
