A few clouds but plenty of blue sky around on Saturday for Rounds 2 and 3 of BPL02. Waveriders’ skipper Harry McNeilly won the toss and elected to bowl. Marlins opener Nick Selman helped himself to two maximums in the first over, but his partner Judd Markham only succeeded in lofting Jackson Smith into the hands of Paddy Cotter from the second ball of the second over. Skipper, Jay Lenton joined Selman in a 56 run partnership from 46 balls before Jackson Smith got under one at fine leg off the bowling of Chris Knight dismissing Lenton for 33 (26) to make it 2/68 from 53 balls. Joel Davies joined Lenton scoring 20 out of a quick-fire partnership of 35 from 17 balls before falling to a Grewal boundary catch off the bowling of Nikhil Chaudhary. Selman was out 13 balls later, two runs short of a 50 from a slick Toby Snell stumping off the bowling of Param Uppal. Marlins could only manage 13 from the last 17 balls to reach 5/124; Lloyd Aspin run out from the final ball by Chris Knight.

Some very tight Marlins bowling restricted Waveriders to just 19 from the powerplay. From that point Addy Grewal and Paddy Cotter put the foot down, taking 37 from the next 20 balls. Cotter’s dismissal on the 42nd ball of the innings did nothing to halt the momentum. Addy Grewal continued to blast away moving to 62 from 42 before being caught on the boundary by Joel Davies off the bowling of Adam Somerfield. Needing 32 from 29 balls, Nikhil Chaudhary wasted no time. He blasted 18 from his first 4 balls to reduce the equation to 14 from 25 allowing the Waveriders to coast past the target in 83 balls; a 7 wicket win.
