Upskill Cricket v Carina A

Winter Warehouse 2023 Saturday A1 Round 2

6 May 2023 at Marchant Park 8

In the first match of the season (Round 1 cancelled due to wet conditions), Luke Ronday set a poor precedent losing the toss. On the bright side, Carina chose to bat which probably suited everyone.

An early wicket to Campbell Farrelly and a “spitter” from Will Whatmore to claim the dangerous Turner brought Ben Newman and Paul Hanssens together for a 63 run 3rd wicket partnership, but wickets to Amreen Kahlon and Luke Ronday in the space of 4 deliveries made it 4/93 in the 29th. Some lusty hitting by skipper, Maan Simar late in the innings took Carina to a respectable 156 from their 40 overs. Luke Ronday finished with 2 wickets and Matthew Taviani 2 catches in the field.

An opening stand of 57 from 63 between Nick Boller and Ben Ronday set a solid platform. There was some concern when wickets fell in a clump in the 11th, 13th, 16th, 21st and 22nd overs to make it 5/105, but Luke Ronday and Nick Boller saw the side home in a 6th wicket 52 run partnership; Boller remaining not out on 82 from 107 balls.
