Yellow Yorkers v Macgregor Mystics

Warehouse T20 Group A 2022-23 - Round 2

16 October 2022at Marchant Park 10

Marchant Park 10 was the unusual venue for the T20 Group A clash between Macgregor Mystics and Yellow Yorkers - a team cobbled together to replace the disbanded Wolfpack. Skies to the north-west were ominous, but play was uninterrupted. Yorkers won the toss and chose to bat.

The Mystics took the field two men down (due to a “ground misunderstanding”), but veteran Allauddin Mohammed took a wicket in each of his first two overs and newcomer, Hassan Shahid, was on a hat-trick in the 4th to have the Yorkers in all sorts of trouble at 4/9. It got worse when Irfan Cheema grabbed a wicket from his second ball to make it 5/11 and Adnan Iqbal took one with the last ball of the next over to make it 6/21! Then, it all went to pieces. Catches were grassed and the fielding fell away to allow the Yorkers to pile on 84 runs in the next 12 overs thanks mainly to Prakash Reddy’s 37 from 21 and Rajesh Kananti’s run-a-ball 30. Allauddin (4/14) and Hassan (3/17) returned to clean up the remaining wickets by the end of the 19th.

In the chase, Mystics did not fare any better than Yorkers collapsing to 7/50 and needing 56 from the last 7 overs. An outstanding 8th wicket partnership between Aman Dhaliwal and Adnan Iqbal breathed life back into the Mystics’ innings. The pair stole runs at every opportunity allowing just 8 dots in six overs and taking 27 runs from overs 17, 18 and 19 to bring Mystics 8 runs behind with six balls to go. A single off the first ball of the last made it 7 from 5. The 50 partnership (from 38 balls) came up from the next ball, but Adnan was short of his ground attempting a second. Mystics 8/100. 5 runs behind with 4 to go. Aman remained stranded at the non-strikers end and could only watch in agony as three dots including a wicket ended the match. Mystics down by 4 runs. 😒
