Wynnum Manly v University

Taverners U17 Boys Round 7

Sunday 29 October 2023 at Bill Albury Oval

The clash was against top of the table University at Bill Albury Oval. Harley Malpass tossed correctly and decided to bat. A promising 23 run opening stand was snuffed out when Connor Rudman pulled Harry Langdon straight to mid wicket where Cooper Beachy-Head gleefully accepted the catch. From that point, partnerships were similarly snuffed out before they could build to anything. Will Parkinson collected three wickets in five overs and Blake Armstrong picked up one with his second ball and Wynnum were staring down the barrel at 5/61 at drinks. Nick Bragger and Noah Maguire dug in to stop the rot and held out for 10 overs before Bragger holed out with the score on 82. Maguire (26) and Joyce (20) added 31 from 53 for the 7th wicket and wickets 8 to 10 added another 50 to take Wynnum to a modest 163 from a full 50 overs. Parkinson was the pick of the bowlers with 3/34 from 10.

Uni lost a wicket early in the chase, but Blake Armstrong and Angus Storen blasted 9 fours and a six in a 69 run stand for the 2nd wicket, before Armstrong edged newcomer Lucas D’Amore to Noah Maguire at the start of the 11th. Zac Olsen joined Storen for another 50+ partnership; Storen reaching 50 from 42 balls along the way, before playing around one from Zac Joyce in the 24th over. Olsen and Theo Bacalakis overhauled the target in the 32nd over. Uni winning by 7 wickets.
