Wynnum Manly v Sunshine Coast

First Grade Women Round 28

3 March 2024 at Bill Albury Oval

Zoe Cooke won the toss for Wynnum and chose to bat in overcast conditions at Bill Albury Oval. Lucy Hamilton and Ruby Orchard made the ideal start for Sunshine Coast decimating the Wynnum top order; leaving the hosts reeling at 4/38 after 12 overs. Holly Barr and Zoe Cooke breathed some life back into the innings with a spritely 23 run 5th wicket stand before succumbing in successive Bonnie Berry overs to make it 6/66 (😈). Coach Shashi offered stubborn resistance in a fighting 32 not out as wickets tumbled around her; Wynnum eventually all out for 123 in the 37th over.

The Wynnum bowling threatened early resulting in a wicket to Shashi in the 6th over thanks to a sharp catch by keeper Ellie Johnston. Clodagh Ryall snuck one through Mikayla Wrigley’s defence with her second ball to make it 2/29 in the 11th. From there, Rachel Priest and Lucy Hamilton took matters in hand; accelerating to 57 at the end of the 16th before Priest’s hammie forced her retirement for a top score 36 from 44. Another sneaky one from Ryall claimed Hamilton in the next over and there was a sniff of a chance!. Kalea Moore and Tarah Staines then combined for a solid 37 from 39 balls to take the score to within 20 of the target. Shashi’s return to the attack brought her a second and third wicket before the target was overhauled in the 27th over.
