Wynnum Manly Gold v Wynnum Manly Blue - Over 40s Winter 2024

Gloomy at first, the day fined up nicely for the intra-club fixture between Blue and Gold. Justin Poole called correctly and chose to bowl in the overcast conditions. Gold bowlers, Andrew Monley and Steen Carlson, posed problems for Simon Milton and Nav Kahlon with some prodigious early movement. Monley eventually broke through in his 5th and 6th over removing Nav and Grant Nelson to make it 2/40 after 11; Dale Hansen taking both catches at mid-off. Scott Read joined Milton for a 39 run, 3rd wicket partnership before Hansen made it a hat-trick of catches to dismiss Read off the bowling of skipper Poole. That was the start of a procession as, despite a patient half-century to Milton, Poole (5/14) and Craig Mackay (3/25) tore through the batting order to bundle Wynnum Blue out for 116.

Wynnum Gold made short work of the chase, running the total down in 17.1 overs. There was a little falter when Mark Musk picked up wickets with successive balls in the 9th, but Ryan Broad (44) and Steen Carlson (27) saw Gold home in a 4th wicket partnership of 52 from 32 balls.
