v Redlogs Over 40 Men - 2 June 2024 at Tansey Park

Amazingly, despite prior days’ rain, a beautiful day bloomed and play started on time. Boundaries were difficult to come by, but an opening stand of 82 between John Barrett (31) and Brandon Flack (52*) set Redlogs up for a formidable total. With ten men to start a dozen dropped chances and a torn calf reducing numbers to nine half way through the innings, Wynnum Manly Gold, competed well to take 6/7 in the last two overs and restrict Redlogs to 170. Steen Carlson once again picked up three wickets and David Dirou a brace.

40s to Justin Poole and Brett Crawford and some sparkling hitting at the death by David Dirou and Harry Stavarakis took Wynnum Gold to within 17 of the target with two overs to go. It ended up being one hit too far though with former “Golds” Akula Ram and Santosh Nistala pulling Wynnum up 6 runs short.

v South Brisbane - 15 June 2024 at Ian Droney Oval

On a brilliant winter’s day, Ian Droney Oval resplendent, Wynnum Gold won the toss and elected to bat. An opening stand of 82 from 76 balls between Dale Hansen (54) and Ryan Broad (41), followed up by 84 from 65 between Hansen and Craig Mackay (68) catapulted Wynnum Manly Gold to a huge total of 268. Mackay was particularly brutal smashing 6 fours and 4 sixes in his 42 ball innings.

In the chase, Souths were hamstrung by fine opening spells by Andrew Monley (2/7 from 4 overs) and Ryan Broad (0/13). Craig Mackay and Dale Hansen took up the attack and restricted the scoring to 2/63 at drinks. Souths accelerated after drinks, but the ask was too great; Souths short 102 runs at the conclusion. A scintillating final over by Shane Mikic saw three wickets fall and the enviable figures of 3/1!!

With only 8 men available for “Gold”, it was fantastic to see players from Wynnum “Blue” come over from Wayne Broad to assist in the field. Congrats to the Blues for their last-over win over Redlands on the day.

v University - 30 June 2024 at Wayne Broad Oval

Another beautiful day at Carmichael Park and Wayne Broad Oval. Wynnum Gold won the toss and batted. Fine opening spells by Michael Moy and Cameron Boyd saw Wynnum reduced to 4/41 from the first 14 overs; Boyd and Moy picking up two each. Ryan Broad went on to record a 50 and Dale Hansen contributed a valuable 36 in the middle order. The score was a modest 114 when Andrew Monley and Ryan Poole came together at the start of the 30th to blast 46 from 22 balls and catapult Wynnum Gold to 174, despite Tom Reddacliff’s miserly 2/19 from 6.2

A sensational spell of 7-2-4-19 by Roy Heath decimated the University top order. Steen Carlson’s 3/21 from 5.4 and Harry Stavarakis’ 2/27 from 7 kept the pressure on University throughout the innings. A fine 51 from 57 balls from Gordon McGurk added respectability to the innings; Uni all out in the 31st, 56 runs short.

v Norths - 14 July 2024 at Alan Pettigrew Oval

Another brilliant winter’s day saw Wynnum Gold win the toss and bat. Brett Perrett showed intent early clubbing five boundariesin a rollicking 24 from 21 balls. Brett Crawford and Craig Mackay smashed 48 from 30 balls in their 3rd wicket partnership; Crawford going on to 52 before retiring in the 18th over. 43 from 23 for the 9th wicket between Justin Poole and Michael Anderson elevated Wynnum to 241; the last wicket falling with one over to go. Adam Lavis picked up 5/45 from his 7 overs.

In the chase, Norths’ batsmen got off to starts but were unable to capitalise; going to drinks at 3/77. After drinks, a 4th wicket partnership between Adam Kerrigan and Sharath Ratnakaran showed promise at 39 from 49 before Crawford intervened in the 22nd over to start a collapse. 4 wickets fell for 23 in the space of 5 overs to leave Norths reeling at 7/120. Some big hitting by Andrew McIntosh (38 from 31) at the death took Norths to 169; 72 runs short.
