Western Power v Moreton Magic
BPL 2022 - U23F
5th v 6th
29 September 2022 (8.00am) at Bill Albury Oval
After three successive days of 11.00am starts, 8.00am at Bill Albury oval was a rude awakening!! In a rematch of the 2.00pm match on Ian Droney the day before, the Power once again faced the Moreton Magic in the 5 v 6 playoff. The Power won the toss and chose to bat.
Emma Jackson was on fire early, but lost partner Hannah Freiberg in the 3rd over when she played around won by Jessica Cremin. Breanna Craven joined Jackson and the fireworks continued as the pair smacked 51 from just 5 overs before Craven was run out for the second time in two days; Chelsea Baker throwing down the stumps in the 8th over. Jackson was out two balls later when Laura Schiewe got under a top-edge off the bowling of Keyra Smith and Meghan McCartney became Chelsea Baker’s second run-out victim in the 10th over to make it 3/11 in 10 balls for the Power. Lucy Williams and Abby Harris had added 24 runs when a terrible mix-up in the 14th over had both batters at one end of the wicket. A fumble in the field somehow allowed Harris to re-make her ground at the non-striker’s end, but Williams promptly smacked the very next ball into the hands of Ava Spence at midwicket to end the partnership. Eight balls later, Harris was smartly stumped by Stumer standing up to Shari Anderson. Anderson also claimed the wickets of Emily Titmarsh and Sarah Walker to finish with 3/23. The Power limping to a defendable 141.
Stumer and Staines began with a flourish taking 27 from the first three before Staines was bowled by Erin Moran. Stumer then combined with Keyra Smith in a partnership of 89 from 66 for the second wicket, Stumer bringing up 50 from 35 balls along the way. The hare-like running of Stumer was eventually too much for Smith who fell for a well-made 28 to a throw by Hannah Freiberg in the 14th over. With just 27 needed from the last six overs, the damage was done! Stumer was eventually out in the 16th over caught by Emily Titmarsh off the bowling of Lucy Williams and a Meghan McCartney throw caught Ava Spencer short in the 17th. The target was finally overhauled with 13 balls to spare.
Well done to all for a very entertaining week of cricket.
