Warehouse v Ipswich

Plunkett Cup 2021/22

13 February 2022 at Ivor Marsden Memorial Complex Oval 1

A really nice day for cricket at the Ivor Marsden complex in Ipswich. Jacob Porter won the toss and decided that runs on the board was the way to go, but at 3/12 after six overs he may have had his doubts! Coming in at No. 3, Porter anchored the innings and partnered with Santosh Nistala for an innings high 29 for the 7th wicket. The captain’s knock of 42 came to an end, caught down leg to give pick-of-the-bowlers, Blayde Klass his third of the innings. Santosh Nistala went on to 25 but was not able to contain himself against the spinner and was well caught on the long on boundary. Klass’ opening partner, Dom Salton mopped up the Warehouse tail to claim three of his own. Warehouse all out for 104 in the 35th over.

The chase began in fine style for Ipswich. A belligerent Jackson McQuilty took charge in an opening partnership of 34 with Lawrence Pratt. Pratt was first to go getting an edge to Porter off Nistala at the end of the 6th over. McQuilty followed seven balls later when Nistala claimed his second with a sharp C&B. Then, in the last over before lunch, Tom Somerville snuck one through to make it 3/50 and give Warehouse a flicker of hope.

After lunch Todd Anderson and Zane Hogan batted conservatively against tight bowling by Fabian Roberts and Tom Somerville. Just 20 runs came from 10 overs before Showalapurla Krishna pouched one off Somerville to dismiss Hogan. The remaining 35 runs came a little quicker and without further loss. Ipswich completing the victory, by 6 wickets in the 33rd over.

The two sides are now set to play a grand final in a couple of weeks at the same venue.
