Wanderers v Emerald

Wanderers Tour 2023

22 August 2023 at Epic Park

Wanderers was formed in Queensland during 1933 by the then Governor of Queensland, Sir Leslie Wilson, with the aim to encourage young people to play and enjoy the game of cricket. Today, the Club plays mid-week matches each Summer, mostly against schools in the State's south-east, and undertakes an annual playing and coaching tour of country centres. Tours in recent years have taken Wanderers west to Eromanga, South to Yetman and North to Charters Towers.
In August 2023, the Wanderers Annual Tour will loop around Goondiwindi, St George, Roma, Tambo, Barcaldine, Emerald, Springsure. If you are a cricketer, golfer, lawn bowler or just an avid observer/supporter, please visit the Wanderers Club QLD Inc. Facebook page and register your interest for future tours.
The Club relies upon its own fund-raising resources and sponsors to finance its activities including supporting youngsters in coaching clinics and on tours.

It was a run-a-thon in the match at Epic Park v Emerald. Connor Nowlan and Chad Soper put on their usual show with a 50 partnership in 49 balls; 100 in 87 and 150 in 121 on their way to 166 from 139 and the retirement of Connor after a century in 68 balls. Soper went on to add 79 in 69 with Jamo Allan before falling in the 35th over on 87, the Devil’s number 👹. At 2/259 with 15 overs to go, a score of 400 beckoned. Jamo Allan clobbered his way to 91 from 76 balls, but Emerald fought back taking 6/55 in their last 9 overs and restricting Wanderers to 8/345. Late addition, Tajinder Singh, took the bowling honours with 3/21 from 5 overs.

Emerald started off well with a 54 run opening stand between Cameron Keene and Kasun Siri, before Kasun was bowled by Alex Dwan in the 11th over. Dwan struck twice in the 15th and Robert O’Keeffe nabbed one in the 16th to reduce Emerald to 4/80, before Cameron Keene and skipper Yash Kapoor (43) turned the match on its head. Keene brought up a century from 80 balls in a 28-run, 26th over and thundered on to 140 before the introduction of Connor Nowlan brought about the end of the partnership of 137 from 89 balls. Nowlan grabbed a second wicket from the following ball and Emerald were 6/218 after 31 overs. Keene continued to dominate; adding a further 36 to his score in a partnership of 47 with Reuben Harrold. Lance Roudenko finally ended Keene’s day in the 40th over. An innings of 176 from 116 balls including 24 fours and 8 sixes. Roudenko went on to take three wickets in his next over to bring the innings to a close on 278; a win to Wanderers by 67 runs.

Wanderers invited Emerald to continue their innings to allow the 12th batsman a hit. Dave McCarthy and Will McCullough added 53 from 47 balls before McCarthy was cleaned up by Jamo Allan in the 50th over.

Skippers, Brad Murphy and Yash Kapoor were gracious in their praise of the opposition and all those who contributed to staging the game. Cameron Keene received a bottle of Yellow Tail wine for his Man of the Match performance.
