Wanderers v Blackwater

Wanderers Tour 2020

Bellert Oval 20/8/2020

Tour game seven

9 dropped catches! You can’t do that. Not against a very good Blackwater side. Once again, a good batting start fell away with quick top order wickets; Wanderers 4/64 at drinks. A 56 run, 5th wicket partnership between Christian Murphy and Tom Morris, off just 50 balls, restored some respectability. Murphy and Byron Gale then added 34 in just 23 balls, featuring some hair-raising running between wickets.

Despite the maniacal running which resulted in three of the last five wickets falling to run outs, Wanderers managed to post 195 from their 40 overs.

The fielding effort started promisingly with Blackwater 5/48 before too long, but partnerships of 72 from 73 between Chris Johnson and Calvin Munro and 53 from 59 between Munro and Neil Saunders sealed the match for Blackwater with 4 overs to spare. Tyran Eggmolesse was outstanding for Wanderers with figures of 8-2-3-12. Frederick Lee Watts also picked up three wickets.

Once again the hospitality of the hosts was amazing. Loved those ribs from the Capricorn Hotel and the wonderful meat supplied by sponsor Shane Shoesmith. Well done to Chris Johnson and his crew.
