South Brisbane v Wests - 2nd Grade

Allan Pettigrew Shield 2020/21

Round 12 20/20

5 December 2020 at Graceville Memorial Park No. 1

After the disappointment of the morning, a determined Souths outfit dominated in the second 20/20 on Saturday.

A re-shuffle in the order saw Honeybrook open with Trent Pearce. In a belligerent opening stand, the pair smacked 84 from just 48 deliveries, before Pearce was out trying to clear the boundary. The 2nd wicket partnership between Honeybrook and Harry Jones was equally as dominant. Both brought up 50s on the way to a stand of 91 from 71 balls and it was not over when Jones was dismissed. A 2 and a 6 from the final two balls by Brendan James took the total to 183.

The chase started badly for Wests when Joe Rangiah struck in the first over and it got worse when Matthew Taviani accepted an edge in Rangiah’s second over. McNae chimed in with a wicket in the next over with Pearce taking the catch and Max Edmondson held a blistering drive at cover to give Rangiah his third from the last ball of the 5th over. Wests 4/27.

Just when it looked like Wests might settle, a second catch to Pearce in McNae’s 4th over halted the flow and four balls later a superb throw by Jones from mid-wicket and an excellent gather by Taviani created a runout to leave Wests struggling at 6/46.

The 7th wicket resisted for about 4 overs before Taviani was in the action again with a slick stumping off Smit Mehta and then a catch off Umhar Samsudeen to make it 8fa. A McNae boundary catch off Matt Casey followed closely by Samsudeen’s second wicket ended the innings at 83 from 16.3 overs; a margin of 100 runs.
