Game 1: Wanderers v Brisbane Super Kings at D M Henderson Upper

25s from Hemant, JK and Yagnesh and an 11-ball, 39 run partnership between Dev and Yagnesh, guided BSK to a respectable 140 from their 11 overs. Callum picked up 2-6 from his over, while Sam had the “honours” with the extra over for Wanderers.

The Wanderers chase got off to a flying start as Harry cashed in for a quickfire 26 from 6 in the first over. Ollie and Sam joined Harry in retirement, taking Wanderers to 0/88 from just 4 overs. A couple of quick wickets to Nissan and Sathish slowed the run rate, but a 33 run partnership between Sheldon and Campbell steadied the ship, taking Wanderers to within 5 of the target with 8 balls to go. Bala’s wicket in the 10th and run-out with 2 balls to go left Wanderers needing 1 from the last two balls. Matt obliged taking a single from the second last ball to clinch it for Wanderers.

Game 2: Wynnum Manly v Coomera-Hope Island at D M Henderson Lower

On the bottom oval, Coomera-Hope Island’s Mitch doubled his first three balls for 18 runs and reached 24 in a partnership of 37 from 11 balls with Daz, before falling to Thando in the second over. Daz and Damian both retired with the score on 72 from 4 overs. The runs then dried up and Koshal and Ravi picked up wickets in the 6th and 7th for Wynnum. Chris then exploded in the 9th, clubbing 20 of Amreen before being bowled on the last ball of the over. Marty and Ben added 12 in the last couple to take the score to 126.

The Wynnum chase began badly with wickets to Jared and Marty in the 2nd and 3rd overs to make it 2/24. Bodie and Ravi restored some balance in a 28 run partnership, but fell in consecutive overs to make it 4/64 after 7. Needing 63 for victory, Thando and Will added 28 from 14, before Will was bowled and Thando retired in the 10th. Despite three doubles in hand Amitoj and Dan just could not get Chris away; Wynnum falling short by 11 runs.

Game 3: Wynnum Manly v Wanderers at D M Henderson Upper

Wanderers got off to another cracking start with Harry and Sam belting a tournament high partnership of 49 from the first 11 balls. A good catch by Will off Amitoj saw the end of Sam for 19 at the start of the 3rd. Ollie started took 11 from his first three balls; 1/65 from 3. The next 8 overs were in stark contrast to the first 3. Wanderers lost 7 for 67 as some solid Wynnum bowling and fielding restricted scoring. Scott and Koshal both picked up double wicket overs with Koshal on a hat-trick in the 10th; Wanderers 132.

A 31-run first over and a 38 run 3rd over broke the back of the chase for Wynnum. Partnerships of 38 from 10 (Om and Eddie), then 36 from 8 (Amitoj and Dan) took the score to 81 at the end of the 3rd. Eddie, Dan and Amitoj all retired within the first 5 overs, the target overhauled in 6.4 overs.

Game 4: Brisbane Super Kings v Coomera-Hope Island at D M Henderson Lower

An opening partnership of 26 from 16 (Gill and Hemant) and a “closing” partnership of 39 from 15 (Nissan and Dev) could only get BSK to 114 in the bottom oval game v Coomera-Hope Island. BSK struggled in the middle stages due to some tight bowling by CHI.

In the chase, Daz and Damian combined for a 2nd wicket 47 from 19, taking Coomera to 52 from 4 overs. Damian and Mitch teed off in a 33 run, 6th over to take the score to 88. From there, it wasn’t far to the 115 run target, Coomera-Hope Island getting there in 9.2.

Game 5: Wynnum Manly v Brisbane Super Kings at D M Henderson Upper

A wicket in the first over did not dampen BSK’s spirits in their clash with Wynnum on the top oval; a partnership of 30 from 18 balls between Gill and Hemant taking the score to 48 after 4 overs. Gill added another 16 with Yagnesh before retiring on 28, then Ian joined Yagnesh and dominated a 36-run partnership, making 31 himself before his compulsory retirement with the score on 100. BSK added a further 30 runs from the remaining 19 balls to reach 130.

Despite losing early wickets, Wynnum recovered thanks to rollicking partnerships between Thando and Dan (27 off 5 balls), then Dan and Amitoj (42 off 11 balls). Thando and Dan both made the best use of doubles, clubbing 12s off their final balls to reach 35 and 36 respectively; Wynnum overhauling the target in 7.5 overs.

Game 6: Coomera Hope-Island v Wanderers at D M Henderson Lower

It was a cliff-hanger on the bottom oval! It was a relatively sedate start for Wanderers with just 28 from the first three, then the wicket of Sam at the start of the 4th. Eddie then came to the crease and exploded, smashing consecutive sixes from his first four balls, then a dot and a 12 to retire on 36 from 6; a strike rate of 600 😯 and the score on 66…too many sixes for me…☠️. Harry (who had made 1 from 1 in a partnership of 37 from 7 with Eddie) retired 9 balls later for a relatively pedestrian 25 from 14! Inspired by Eddie, Prince had no dot balls in his 31 from 6, taking the score to 108 from 8. Coomera-Hope Island hit back in the final overs taking 3/28, including 2 to Marty in the last to take his tally to 3/32, the best innings haul of the tournament.

Chasing 137, Coomera-Hope Island started cautiously, but kept wickets in hand. Ben and youngster, Jacob, added 41 from 27 for the first wicket, Ben retiring on 30 from 14 and Jacob an over later. Mitch wasted no time with 28 from 5 taking the score to 78 at the end of the 7th. 59 from 5 needed. A double 6 from Josh in the 10th took him to 33 and retirement, leaving 22 to get from 9 balls. Daz and Damian managed 17 of them, falling just short of a 3rd victory for the day.

Grand Final: Wynnum Manly v Coomera-Hope Island at D M Henderson Upper

Wynnum and Coomera-Hope Island emerged as the two finalists edging out Wanderers due to superior Net Run Rates.

Wynnum Manly won the toss and elected to bowl. Catches to Om and Will in the second over gave Thando 2 wickets and had CHI on the back foot at 2/15. Jared and Mitch briefly recovered, but two wickets to Om in the 5th, then wickets in the 6th, 7th and two to Amreen in the 8th reduced Coomera to 9/64. It was left to young Caden to bat on his own for the final wicket. This he did admirably; scoring 33 from 22 to take the score to some respectability at 94. The Wynnum Manly fielding was superb with Om and Amitoj taking two catches each and Will - the everywhere man - taking four.

The crowd was treated to a hitting competition between innings. The award going to Mitch from CHI who clubbed the ball an unknown number of metres which was longer than all the other metres hit by other people!!!! In a riveting interview with Brad Murphy, Mitch - the elaborator - kept his cards pretty close to the vest (which ironically he wasn't wearing), guardedly protecting the secret to his hitting prowess.

Wynnum lost a wicket early, but a second wicket partnership of 47 from just 18 balls between Dan (25) and Thando (25) set Wynnum on the path to victory. Despite wickets to Daz, Lachie and Caden in the 7th, 8th and 9th overs and the introduction of additional fielders by the match referee, Wynnum Manly reached the target at the end of the 9th.

A big Thank You to Tournament umpires Graeme and Mick for their wonderful contribution standing in four matches each.
Well done and Thank You to Sydney and Ash for scoring the three matches on the bottom oval at short notice. 🥰
