2025 Nudeballers Goldfield Ashes

Analysis by #pooinsink

… and other pre-weekend observations

Welcome to season 2025 Nudeballers.

Very much looking forward to seeing everyone on the 16th and a welcome back to our rookies last year Kenty & Bear, also must give a big welcome to our new member Brad ($1.10) Burrows who possibly hasn’t seen anything this in-depth. A summary on our 2025 ashes opposition & previous statz. (No audio book on this on sorry $1.10)

2025 will see the Nudeballers face a new challenge! 15 years plus attending the Goldfield Ashes and we won’t play a new side in 2025. All 3 teams we come up against we have previously played, and we will visit the same ground we previously played each side at. It’s kind of like going back to a ex, you know what to expect but you still have to hold on. In huge news, Nudeballers will not play at the Charters Towers Airport Reserve in 2025. I already don’t like this.

2024 Results

Nudeballers – Finished 27th. 2 Wins, 1 Loss, 729 Runs, 23 Wickets.

FRIDAY 17/01/25

NEVILLE’S NOMADS, FIELD 20 (Richmond Hill Primary School)

Results 2024 – Finished 17th. 3 Wins, 604 Runs, 24 Wickets.

Previous Played 27/01/2019 – Day 2. NUDEBALLERS WIN

Nomads 9/120 – 2 wickets to Bonfire & Stinky.

Nudeballers 9/239 – 50 Runs to Truck & #pooinsink.

2025 Comments – I really don’t know if it’s a good thing we are starting at Richmond Hill but I will take it, it will soon go down hill much like us. I may be wrong but last time we played Nomads they decided to sit out several guns and play a few roughies, this won’t happen again. Day 1 we need to be switched on ready to start strong. Nomads finished with 3 wins last year and will be a tough opposition to start. No excuses, ok that might be a bit much to ask for, let’s say 2 excuses per person, per km away from home, divided by your age plus 1.

SATURDAY 18/01/2025

THE BAM-BOOZLERS, FIELD 54 (Drink-A-Stubbie Downs)

Results 2024 – Finished 39TH. 2 Wins, 1 Loss, 603 Runs, 23 Wickets.

Previous Played 22/01/2023 – Day 3. NUDEBALLERS WIN.

Bam Boozlers 7/176 (35 Overs) – 2 Wickets to Half-A-Night.

Nudeballers 5/290 (35 Overs) – 50 runs to Chief King & Vulture.

2025 Comments – Do we book accommodation out here now? I told you it can only go down hill from Richmond Hill, we are back at the worst place in Charters Towers. A lot of bad memories at this venue, Anal breaking his finger, Shut The F&$k Up nearly getting divorced over a phone call at long on and Leg Slip, well do I need to say anymore “Quick Taylor, hide my smokes from my dad”. Let’s just hope they have changed the music this year. We are not going all the way out here to lose, forget it. Day 2 is when we are statistically at our highest percentage of losing games and this will not happen at this venue. We win, go home, swim and drink beer and talk about how we never want to play there again.

SUNDAY 19/01/2025

GRANDSTANDERS II, FIELD 50 (Goldfield Sporting Complex)

Results 2024 – Finished 31st. 2 Wins, 1 Loss, 621 Runs, 27 Wickets.

Previous Played 21/01/2022 – Day 1. NUDEBALLERS WIN.

Grandstanders 8/215 – 2 wickets to Trust Me.

Nudeballers 7/328 – 50 Runs to Stinky, 40s to Anal, Uncle Bob & Trust Me.

2025 Comments – Finishing only a few places behind us in 2024 these guys will be out to end the weekend strong and turn around the previous heavy defeat from 2022. We won’t be able to think about red rooster too early on day 3, good side needs to be taken down first. We generally have a last little lift in energy to finish the weekend and I expect nothing less here. Good field to play on as well. Get the result, we have a booking at red rooster at 11am. According to Eagle if we bat first it will be quicker so lets win the toss and bat.

Game 1 (Match 46) v Neville’s Nomads

Match Report

The One with the 46 sixes!

17 January 2025 at Richmond Hill State School 50

Batting first, Neville’s Nomads 6/277; 25.1 overs. Nudeballers 8/307; 30.4 overs

Nudeballers win by 5 wickets in 29.1 overs.

Yes. You read it right. 46 sixes…and eight 50s!

Neville’s obviously learned from their last encounter v Nudeballers in 2019 where they were rolled for just 120. The first wicket fell in the first over with 11 runs on the board, but Nudeballers had to wait another 150 runs and 12 overs for the next, then a further 97 runs and 10 overs for the 3rd.  As foretold by the sage #pooinsink, their best team took the paddock and came out blazing, breaking a stack of opposition records v Nudeballers:

  • Highest run rate v Nudeballers; a blistering 11.00 per over.

  • Highest score v Nudeballers; 277.

  • Record 12 of the 25 overs bowled by Nudeballers went for more than 10 runs.

  • Most opposition 50s (4) in an innings v Nudeballers.

  • Most sixes (26) in an innings v Nudeballers.

Nudies bowlers were definitely under the pump, but a couple of tight overs by Shut-the-f@#$-up (0/4); two wickets in an over to Anal in between and wickets to Half-a-Night (1/10) and Leg Slip 1/0 off 1 ball (😯) brought the innings to an early close in the 26th over. $1.10’s 0/11 from his 2 overs was also a standout in the context of the punishment dished out by Neville’s.

The number of records shattered by Neville’s made the Nudeballers chase all the more remarkable.

Wickets in the 3rd (2) and 4th overs had Nudeballers reeling at 3/24. The Nudeballers run machine then kicked into action. Shut-the-f@#$-up, Stinky, Half-A-Night and Bear peeled off 50s in a 21 over 216 run blitz. Coming in with Nudeballers needing 112 from 99 balls, Bear’s 19-ball effort catapulted Nudeballers into the box seat. Bear partnered Half-A-Night for 26 from 11 and Cider Canary for 48 from 26, reducing the equation to a manageable 38 from 62. Bear’s retirement, followed by the dismissal of Cider Canary next ball, put a spanner in the works. Chief King and Vulture added 29 runs from 17 balls and were looking good before a good catch by Gullota did for Chief King.  One wicket remaining; good bowlers on; a tight over; Five to get. Vulture on strike.. Six! Yoohoo!.

Vulture and Furstin went on to add 38 from 18 balls, before a dubious run out decision ended Vulture’s and the Nudeballers innings on 307.

A really good chase.

Orange Cap: Shut-the-f@#$-up. Purple Cap: Anal. Pink Cap: Chief King

The Eagle Trophy: Bear 50 from 19; 0/16 from 2 overs.

Ladder Position: 21

Game 2 (Match 47) v Bamboozlers

Match Report

The One with the Massive Margin!

18 January 2025 at Drink-A-Stubbie-Downs 54

Batting first, Nudeballers 4/362; 34.3 overs; Bamboozlers 10/81; 19.0 overs.

Nudeballers win by 281 runs.

Man of Match honours in the form of a Nudeballers trophy was presented to Bamboozlers for the aid rendered to Leg Slip at the end of Game 3, 2023 “The one with the Broken Leg”. Danni was one of those who assisted and was on hand for a photo op with the great man himself. Bamboozlers were missing a few due to a recent tragedy of one of their own. Something Nudeballers know a bit about.

Nudeballers accumulated a massive 362, the highest Nudeballers score batting first at the Ashes. Kenty’s 52 from 21 balls set the scene at the top of the order followed by 50s to Anal, #pooinsink, Vulture and Furstin; Five 50s second only to Six taken in “The Massacre at Field 45” two years earlier. Bamboozlers toiled for 21 overs and 220 runs between wickets 2 and 3 as Nudeballers rattled off four 50+ partnerships.

Chief King, Half-a-Night, Furstin and Bonfire picked up a couple of wickets each to bundle Bamboozlers out for 81 in just 19 overs; a margin of 281 runs. The biggest ever win for Nudeballers.

Bamboozlers definitely won the skulls though. Vulture dropping the ball again. 🙄

Orange Cap: Vulture Purple Cap: Furstin Pink Cap: Chief King

The Eagle Trophy: Furstin 52 (30) ; 2/5 from 2 overs.

Ladder Position: 5

Game 3 (Match 48) v Grandstanders II

Match Report

The One with the Hat-tricks!

19 January 2025 at Goldfields Sporting Complex 50

Batting first, Grandstanders II 9/158; 30.5 overs. Nudeballers 8/268; 35 overs

Nudeballers win by 9 wkts in 19.4 overs.

10 wickets and at least 350 runs needed to get into the Top 5. Nudeballers were well on track as they bundled out the first nine Grandstanders for just 93 runs, but try as they might, the last wicket eluded them. The tenth wicket stand added an undefeated 65; the innings coming to an end with the retirement of Will for 51. Amazingly, the innings contained not one, but two hat-tricks. Anal completing his hat-trick with wickets on the 5th and 6th balls of Over 9 and the first ball of over 11, but was upstaged by Shut-the-f@#$-up’s double hat-trick (and double wicket maiden) from balls 2, 3, 4, 5 of the 16th over. Vulture’s two dropped catches catapulted him to the top of that ignominious statistic!

Nudeballers reply started with a flourish with partnerships of 66 to #pooinsink and Half-a-Night, followed by 95 to Anal and Stinky (Equal 2nd highest Nudeballers partnership). Runs were hard to come by though as the Grandstanders youngsters fielded with vigour to cut-off boundaries and restrict Nudeballers to 268.

Orange Cap Winner: #pooinsink (105 runs) Purple Cap Winner: Half-A-Night (4/19, 6 overs) Pink Cap Winner: $1.10 (2 catches, 0 drops)

The Eagle Trophy: Shut-the-f@#$-up double hat-trick; double wicket maiden; 2/1 from 2 overs and 34 not out
