2014 Nudeballers LMS Winter
Match 1 v SCpoker
4 May 2014 at Homestead Park
An excellent start by the Nudeballers in their first Last Man Stands match.
Highlights:
All Batsmen reached double figures.
Partnerships of 72 (40) - Matt/Gilly, 46 (34) Lucky Phil/Timber and 43 (34) Neebs/Timber propelled Nudeballers to 168.
Matt Tav 43 (including a "Home Run" 12; 6 off the last ball) and then taking 3/12 (including a maiden) with the ball.
Match 2 v The Four Cues
18 May 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
In a very close match, Nudeballers had The Four Cues at 6/104 but just couldn't finish off the last wicket. ‘Cues last partnership of 84 from 33 balls was the difference between the two sides.
With Gilly and Dino putting on a 53-run opening stand and Neebs and Dino bringing up maiden Nudeballer 50s, there were a lot of positives. The Four Cues look the best side in the division. The close result augers well for the season ahead.
Match 3 v Screaming Cats
25 May 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
It's bad enough with 8, but when there's only 7, it can be carnage. Dropped catches and missed catch opportunities cost Nudeballers dearly on Sunday. On the brighter side...Captain Timber showed how to bat in the Last Man Stands position; top-scoring with 28 off 18.
Match 4 v Southside Boys
1 June 2014 at Weaber Rd Buccan
A narrow loss by Nudeballers today v Southside Boys.
Matt Davis scored a maiden 50
LuckyPhil( there's always something happening) took 2/16 from 3 overs. Phil obviously needs to have a D&M with Gilly who left him "on the shelf" with an over to spare and those outstanding figures.
Dino and Wondergai, in a team together, proved about as positive as Moriarty in Kelly's Heroes (youtube it).
Dave Levitt knocked up 31 from just 16 balls.
Match 5 v SCpoker
8 June 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
A big win for Nudeballers (0/61 from 6.3) v SCPoker (all out 56 from 7.0).
the Demon was back. One over to settle; then a wicket in the next.
Timber knocked over two, including one that bowled the batsman off his pads and an LBW for which he didn't even appeal; lucky Gilly did!
just the look of Cobber triggered a collapse.. A single off his first, then a catch, double play run out and another run out to LuckyPhil to complete a team hat trick in two balls.
five wickets in nine balls finished the innings.
Gilly took a catch, a run out and 44 from 17
LuckyPhil got a flush... Five fours in an over... Off his bowling..At least he didn't get hit for six!
Match 6 v Lager Louts
15 June 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
Two in a row for the Nudeballers with a win over the Lager Louts today. There was mass confusion with all the Matts on the field. This must've been the reason for everyone forgetting how to catch a cricket ball....Some catches were taken though.
Gilly got one and made a 50.
Brent got one and took 2 wickets.
Dave got one and a double play.
Timber took 2/7 from 2 overs just so he could outdo big brother Matt who took 1/7.
Match 7 v The Four Cues
22 June 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
THREE in a row to the Nudies..
42 to Gilly; 46 to the ring-in, Inchy; 48 to Matt and 30 to Demon took the Nudeballers to 173 from 20; their highest score to date.
With an embarrassment of riches in the bowling ranks, Timber handled his bowlers beautifully to dismiss the Four Cues in just 14.4 overs
brother Matt picking up 3/4 and brother Brently 2/9.
Gilly, Dave and Demon picked up 1 each.
Match 8 v Screaming Cats
29 June 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
Close, but no cigar.
Mavis (that'll stick; thanks Neebs) got a 50 and Tav 44, but, 147 was about 25 short against the top side who got 'em in 18.2. Still, signs were positive! In the last encounter, they got 199 v Nudeballers’ 72, so a definite improvement.
Match 9 v Southside Boys
6 July 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
Southside Boys prevailed today, but the positives were:
a maiden 50 to Matthew Taviani
the debut of "No. 1 Draft Pick" Charlie Shastri..2 wickets and a run out.
the birth of comedic duo Davey and Tav..... Sorry...I did say positives!
Match 10 v SCpoker
13 July 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
A win to the Nudeballers today and some great fellowship afterwards. Unlike Todd Carney's mates, Nudeballers don't kiss and tell....Some highlights:
Opening pship of 54 from 6.2 overs between Brent and Gilly
Matt Tav 49no from 24 balls - just one dot ball!
Timber and Brent returned 2/13 each.
Two catches to Matt Levitt
Match 11 v Lager Louts
20 July 2014 at Homestead Park
Another good win to the Nudeballers today.
Gilly accumulated another 50 to be within 10 of 300 for the season
Matt 30* and Brent 25 also contributed to the final score 142.
With Lager Louts boosted by 3 ring-ins from The Village, a grade up, bowling and fielding needed to be spot on and it was.
Nudies restricted the Louts to just 3 boundaries
Timber returned the best ever Nudeballers figures of 4/9 from 2.4 overs; three of these from catches to Davey in the last four balls of the innings.
Match 12 v The Four Cues
27 July 2014 at Homestead Park
A good win to the Nudies today. It was “Barbecues galore” with Gilly running out Brent, but making up for it with a 50, then Tav Ran himself out himself, then Charlie went on to make a 50. The moral of the story: if you bat with someone who gets run out, you'll make 50!
Davey got a 20 and bowled beautifully without luck. Wickets to Cobber, Charlie and Tav, catches to Phil and Gilly. Fielding was tidy by all.
Match 13 v Screaming Cats
3 August 2014 at Homestead Park
Partnerships were the order of the day today in the Nudeballers v Screaming Cats match.
For the Cats...Jamie and Craig (50 each), added 95 from 60; Wes and Trent 52 from 24.
For the Nudies...Gilly and Davey (50 each) added 84 from 49; Tav and Minul 47 from 34
Only 3 wickets fell all day. Another one of those "c Davey b Timber"s and a good catch to Brent off rescue man, Amara.
In the end, it was just 12 runs the difference in favour of the Cats. A game played in good spirit by both sides was refreshing!
Match 14 v Southside Boys
10 August 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
What a game! .... Southside Boys got away early and were 100 after 10, but the Nudies reeled them in and restricted the score to 177. In a great team performance, all seven bowlers picked up a wicket. Gilly and Tav picked up a couple of catches each.
In contrast, the Nudies struggled early (apart from Gilly who made 53) and were just 90 with 12 overs on the board. Tav and Timber then exploded in a partnership of 52 from 24 balls. After Tav's retirement, some good running and excellent team play by Timber, LuckyPhil and Cobber, brought Gilly back into the game with 20 needed off 8 balls. Some tight bowling allowed only 9 runs off 7 of those. Then, with 11 needed off the last ball, Gilly smacked a "home run" six, which counts for 12 in LMS and the Nudeballers won by two runs.
Nudeballers first win over Southside Boys....I was emotional.
Match 15 Semi-Final v Southside Boys
18 August 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
NUDEBALLERS JUGGERNAUT.
Consecutive Wins Over Southside Boys Propel LMS newcomers into GF.
Timber won the toss, despite calling a statistically inferior Tails, and elected to bat. Neebs and Brent strode to the crease with purpose and Brent strode right back after being given out controversially when his off stump fell over first ball! Dino and Neebs then toiled to 77 from 57 balls. This was hard slog! There were very few boundaries to be extracted from the rain-sodden outfields. Dino eventually succumbed to his chest infection and ran himself out. Neebs and Mavis added 19 before Neebs was caught and Mavis double-played. Charlie was run out a short time later after misjudging a fielder and 1/77 was 5/102. Not for the first time this season, Tav and Timber added a vital 20-odd and took the Nudies to 130.
The Nudies bowling confused SSB. The dinky stuff served up by Neebs, Amara and Brentley was too hard to hit. Oohs and ahs from Tav, behind the stumps were real for a change as ball after ball was played and missed. Their combined 10 overs gave up just 53 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
The 15th over bowled by Brentley proved crucial when first Boyd Wheatley (fresh from a 60 against Nudeballers last week) holed out to a beautifully judged catch by Neebs at long on and then Adam Harris was deceived by a beautiful floater and expertly stumped by Tav. A couple of overs later, Brentley pouched a skied one from big hitter, Dave Cross, off Mavis and from then on it was a struggle to get there for the Boys.
When the last over started, it seemed surreal that 15 runs were still needed. When an edge brought four and the last ball loomed with 5 to get, there was a thought about last week’s home run coming back to haunt us, but Mavis was up to it. the Nudies home by 5.
Match 16 Grand Final v Screaming Cats
25 August 2014 at Weaber Rd, Buccan
It was a nail biter at Buccan...
Timber won the toss and elected to bat. Gilly smashed 13 off the first over, but was out from the last ball trying to make it 19. Brentley took 9 off the next, but was out off the first ball of the 3rd and we were "Ritchie"; 2/22.
Mavis and Tav batted beautifully to add 91 from 67 balls and bring the Nudies within striking distance of a competitive score. After the retirement of Tav and Mavis, Cobber, LuckyPhil, Timber and Amara, added run-a-ball cameos to bring Tav back on strike with 9 balls to go. 16 runs came from the last 9 to take the Nudies to 151 from the allotted 20.
Steve Fernie started in typically belligerent fashion for the Cats smacking two huge sixes on his way to 25 from 16. A top edge was Steve's undoing; the catch taken well by a running Gilly at Wk. Three balls later, fellow opener Craig was deceived by Brentley and the Cats were 2/36.
Jamie and Trent then brought some stability adding 41 from 26 before, Jamie's lofted hoik to midwicket was taken by Brently off Amara; 3/77. Only two more runs were added when an attempted second turned to disaster for Jackson as LuckyPhil pounced on the ball at cover and threw flat and fast for Gilly to whip them off. 4/79. Three balls later a pearler of a catch by Tav to dismiss Wes off Brentley had the Nudies on top at 5/81.
But, while Trent was still at the wicket, the Cats were in with a chance. A partnership of 61 from 37 with Az, brought the Cats back within striking distance, before Trent's retirement. The dismissal of Luke, brought the dangerous Trent back to the wicket with 15 runs needed from the last 9 balls. Trent polished these off with a ball to spare.... Despair for the Nudies; triumph for the Cats.
An excellent game worthy of a GF and played in tremendous spirit as have all games between the two sides this season.
