A glorious day for cricket at Kianawah Park for the Round 1 T20 clash between the Mystics and newcomers, Youth Connect.
Al Mohammed won the toss and decided to have a bat. At 0/11 off three overs, Saddam Sadiq and Gojanur Channa exploded into action taking 29 from the next two and a further 42 from the next five before Channa, attempting successive maximums, was well caught on the boundary with the score on 82.
Partnerships of 29 (18) between Saddam and Khaleel Waqar and 28 (15) between Khaleel and Javed Abro took the Mystics to a competitive 154.
The chase began badly for Youth Connect when Mystics skipper, Allauddin claimed wickets in his first and third overs to reduce YC to 2/19. A Channa catch off Javed in the 7th made it 3/25 and after three very good overs beforehand, Taimoor Shaukat was rewarded with two wickets in the 8th; the second from a fine catch in the deep by Zubair Khan.
At 5/30, things were tough for YC, but they got tougher when Zahid Shoukat came into the action in the 10th over. A Gurmukh Singh catch off Zahid’s first ball was followed up with a run out by Zahid in the next over and then another wicket to Zahid in the 12th to put YC in a world of hurt at 8/51.
A catch to Channa gave Gurmukh his first wicket in the 15th over. From there, Youth Connect held on till the end of the 19th over; Khaleel claiming the final wicket to close the innings on 70.
An 84-run victory to the Mystics to start the season.
