Macgregor Mystics v Wolston Park Centenary

Warehouse Cricket 2021/22

Round 5 Sunday A3

21 November 2021 at Eddie Gilbert Field

It’s always a pleasure to be at the picturesque Eddie Gilbert field. There were a few shenanigans early - Allauddin lost the toss, someone forgot a ball and some even forgot their own name 😮, but eventually the match started about seven minutes late.

Mystics were in trouble early when mystery-man, Raziel, captured two wickets in the 5th over, but Sukhveer Singh and Saddam Sadiq battled hard over the next 8 overs, to record a 35 run partnership. When Saddam was bowled by WPC skipper, Udith, in the 13th, Luis Hermida joined Sukhveer to take the Mystics to drinks at 3/61. Shortly after drinks, Luis played around one and was adjudged LBW to Saveen; Mystics 4/73.

The 5th wicket partnership between Sabahat Mahmood featured some good running between wickets in the early stages (including 2 threes) and some boundary hitting later. The partnership reached 48 before Sabahat swung across the line at one and was bowled, but not before Sukhveer brought up his maiden 50 for the Mystics, from 88 balls. Govind Bhardwaj and Sukhveer then combined for the Mystics 4th 20+ partnership of the day. Unfortunately, Govind’s wicket (caught at slip just before drinks) brought about a massive collapse. From 5/148, Mystics collapsed to be all out 149 in the 38th; a loss of 5/1 in 24 balls. 😬 WPC’s Kanishka Cabral finished with the amazing figures of 3/1 from 8 balls.

WPC were ruthless in the chase. An opening stand of 102 from 100 balls between Saveen and Leshan followed by an unbeaten 44 partnership for the 2nd wicket PLUS five penalty runs when a ball snuck through the keeper and struck the helmet (🤔), saw WPC to the target in 26.1 overs. Irfan Cheema grabbed the only wicket right on drinks. Luis Hermida bowled well, without luck, for 0/23 from 7 overs.
