Macgregor Mystics v Carina

Warehouse Cricket 2021/22

Round 2 Sunday A3

10 October 2021 at Vince Herbert Oval

A beautiful clear day for cricket at Carina.

Al Mohammed won the toss for the Mystics, elected to bowl and was rewarded when Luis Hermida grabbed wickets in his 2nd, 3rd and 4th overs to reduce Carina to 3/24 in the 8th; Sukhveer Singh taking two catches at short cover and Gojanur Channa one behind the stumps.

Varun Prakash and Simar Mann fought back but only until Skipper Al introduced himself and broke through with C&Bs in each of his first two overs; the latter on the stroke of drinks. Carina 5/55 after 17 overs.

After drinks, Al and Gurlal Singh allowed just 3 runs in five overs before Gurlal broke through to make it 6fa in the 22nd. The new batsman, Peter Fysh was not one to be tied down and his attitude spread to his skipper Simar. Between them, they added 20 for the 7th wicket before Khaleel Waqar held onto one off Aman Dhaliwal and made it 7/78.

Nick Nacsa joined Fysh and suddenly it was a different game. 22 runs came off the next three overs before Al decided to reintroduce Hermida and Sahil Puri. The flow of runs slowed a little, but the partnership still reached 50 off just 67 balls. That’s where it ended though; Hermida trapping Nacsa in front in the last of his 10 overs. A C&B to Gurlal a couple of overs later and a catch to Shayan to give Al his 3rd in the 45th brought the innings to a close on 153.

In the chase, the mercurial Deepak Salgotra looked to be on his way clubbing 27 from just 17 balls, including a six into the creek; new ball please! A catch behind ended Deepak’s innings in the 5th over. Channa and Khaleel added 22 from just 32, before Channa became another victim of the keeper in the 10th over. The run rate was a healthy 5.2 when Sukhveer Singh came to the wicket. An aggressive Sukki rode his luck to blast 21 from 30 balls before handing keeper, Dylan Smith, his third catch of the innings in the 16th over. Having only faced 8 balls of the 38 ball partnership with Sukki, Khaleel welcomed the strike, smacking a 4 and a 6 in the over before drinks to take the score to 3/95.

it took just 7.3 overs after drinks to bring up the remaining 59 runs; Khaleel bring up his 50 with a 6 in just 38 balls in an unbeaten partnership of 70 from 55 with Shayan Nekakhtar.

A good win for the Mystics. 😮‍💨
